Ah, now i understand. That looks almost identical to a Kapmeeuw in that picture. Are there any significant differences? Is it possible to get a rear 'a-stick'?

The Zeearend sleeping tent looks like a Kapmeeuw however it is not as practical as the Kapmeeuw.
When you look in the wiki you will see the ZA has a very different floorshape compared to the Kapmeeuw. This shape makes it a smaller tent that it appears on first looks. For two persons it’s fine, three is possible with small sleeping mats and leaves almost no room for luggage.

Regarding the A pole, this was an option on the Kapmeeuw. The older A poles (brown) are adjustable. The newer are fixed and only fit the Kapmeeuw. I have converted an adjustable A pole to fit the Zeearend sleeptent. This way it’s easier to sleep three in the ZA sleeptent but still very little room for luggage.

When buying a Kapmeeuw you must have some luck to get one with an A pole. De Waard does not sell the poles anymore. Atomatent had some in stock a few years ago however I doubt if they still have them. Cost around €60,— if I remember correctly.

Another option besides the Kapmeeuw would be a Mantelmeeuw. Slightly smaller then the Kapmeeuw but very practical, way more pratical then a ZeeArend sleeptent.

The Kapmeeuw is a very popular tent on sites like marktplaats. I even got a very tempting offer for my Kapmeeuw when I was camping with it recently however it’s not for sale. If I were you I should not wait to place a wanted ad.

Thanks Moose. I don’t want to put up a wanted advert till I know 100% I have the money to purchase.

However, if anybody reading this thread does have one for sale please let me know.

There is enough space in the kapmeeuw for the mats you have. Also with an normal pole. The big one in the front, the smaller one after the pole.
We use the kapmeeuw with 4 persons, 3 normal size mats en 1 child size. There is even enough place for bagage.
The size of the kapmeeuw is by the way the same as the Goudplevier. The Goudplevier is probabily easier to get these days.
Good luck with your search!

Hi Yke. The double mat i have is 130cm, so with the Kapmeeuw being 2,5m wide, each side of the pole should be 1.25m. I think this should be ok but a bit of a squeeze

I am veering towards the Kapmeeuw over the Goudplevier for two reasons. First is price and the second is speed. I think the Kapmeeuw has just three poles and the Goudplevier six.

The other possible option i am still considering is a Konningstern but the Kapmeeuw offers more room.

The Kapmeeuw is one of the fastest and easiest de Waard tents to pitch. However a Goudplevier is also easy and fast to pitch.

The koningsstern is a very beautifull tent however not the most practical. I strongly doubt it would fit your sleepingmats.

A better option, in my opinion, would be a Oeverloper or Kleine Burgemeester (old or new model). These are basicly small Kapmeeuw models. Very practical. Or a Zilverplevier (small version of the Gouplevier).

One of the most roomy smaller tents is a Kemphaan.

Edit: found some pictures of the inside of some of my tents to give you an idea of space:

Oeverloper/Kleine Burgemeester (basicly the same tent):

Btw.: the A pole of the Zilverplevier fits perfectly in the Oeverloper and first model Kleine Burgemeester.

Kemphaan:

The kemphaan might look a bit harder to pitch due to the extra poles and pegs but it’s not. A very easy, roomy and comfortable tent for the weekends.

Thanks Moose. Konningstern off the list.

Regarding the Oeverloper, is it 'modular'? The photos on the wiki show what look like different tents.

My shortlist
- Kapmeeuw
- Zilverplevier
- Kemphaan
- Goudplevier
- Kleine Burgemeester
- Oeverloper

IS there room for three mats in the Kleine Burgemeester / Oeverloper? They have sticks that look like it may get in the way. Currently i have an Exped Megamat for myself (197 x 77 cm) and a Vango Double (200 x 130 cm) for the children. The vango is much too large for them, but means they do not easily wriggle off the mat onto a cold floor. I could buy another mat instead of that, but would rather not unless i had to.

The first Oeverloper’s are not modulair. These all have a closed awning attached to the tent. Later production Oeverlopers are all modulair. Basicly a Kleine Burgemeester with the flexibility of a swiss army knife.

You can see the groundsize in the wiki and meassure the size of your mats. We use them for three kids. They sleep on Exped Synmats 12 LXW (2x) and one synmat 9

Thanks Jarl.

I have been browsing the forum and wiki and have seen the Kuifeend. To my eye this looks like a smaller Oeverloper, would this also be an option?

Math was not my strongest class in highschool. However in the wiki I see the sleepcompartment of the Kuifeend is 240x250 and the sleepcompartment of the old kleine burgemeester and oeverloper are 200x250. I don’t see how that makes the kuifeend a smaller tent. Not taking all the options from the Oeverloper into account. Leave them off and you have a very compact yet roomy tent.

Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong on any of the tents mentioned and suggested in this topic. Some are larger then others and some are easier to pitch then others. All off them suit your needs as long as your sleeping mats fit and leave a little room for luggage. It’s not rocket science.

Your biggest challenge will be finding a smaller the Waard in good condition within budget. These smaller the Waards are getting harder to find and fetch high prices. Specially during camping season.

PS, Many thanks for your patience.

Just had my letter confirming i have bonus, so off to post in the wanted thread!

Thanks all.

My shortlist (for me to keep track of which tents to look for!)

- Kapmeeuw
- Oeverloper
- Kuifeend
- Zilverplevier
- Kleine Burgemeester
- Mantelmeeuw

Mostly discounted
- Kemphaan (probably outside budget)
- Goudplevier (probably out of budget)
- kuifuil, good floor space, but limited height of 130cm, i am approx 140cm kneeling)
- Grote Bonte Specht (probably out of my price range)

DIscounted
- Konningstern (too small for 3, sloping front also reduces space. SHame as it is a very nice looking tent)
- graspieper (too small)

Budget available has now increased to around €500. This means that there are a few more tents in my price range available on Marktplaats i have detailed below.

I have also had a response from my wanted advert. "ik heb een oeverloper, en nog nooit gebruikt, wat bied u"
I have asked for pictures and more details.
What do Oeverlopers normally sell for?
What tents below look good value?

Kemphaan #1
Seller is looking for €600, 2005, 2 red side screens, storage apron and trolley bag
The best offer the seller has had so far is 275.
This has two adverts on marktplaats
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... usPage=VIP
and
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... b9c5b7a618

Kemphaan #2
€500, No extras. The seller says this has had six weeks use, does the fading on pictures 8 9 and 10 look consistent with this amount of use?
Has had a hole in the roof repaired. Label looks older style than Kemphaan #1
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... ousPage=lr

Kemphaan #3
€ 500, 2005, one side screen
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... ousPage=lr

Kemphaan #4
€375
Discounted due to dirty canvas
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... ousPage=lr

Zilverplevier #1
€450, No extras, 2000, around 15 weeks
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... ousPage=lr

Zilverplevier #2
No extras, no pictures of actual tent. Current bid of €300
https://www.marktplaats.nl/a/caravans-e ... ousPage=lr

Kleine Burgemeester #1
€350, current bid of €225 - Seller thinks around 2 to 3 weeks use (?)

This is not a Kleine Burgemeester. It is a Dwergmeeuw. A much smaller tent, just big enough to sleep two without luggage.
