I have a Grote Bonte Specht and we are very content with this Tent, but i search for a bigger one for 4 persons for longer stays.



We camp in regions where there are ticks, ants and scorpions in the grass.

i am sure they don't come through the zipper of the grote bonte specht. so no inner tent needet and the complete space is awaylable for sleeping.


I looked throug the Collection of the bigger tents and i saw here, that only the vergrote kuifmees has a front Zipper and not only Buttons with a lot space beetween für ants and ticks an Scorpions....

the innertents of most of these tents are anyway ounly courtains without dense ground floor. ticks will come here trough i am very sure of it.


so only vergrote kuifmees is an option?
i need minimum the place of the grote bonte specht for secure sleeping (370 x 230) without bugs...

not smaller.


then: i have to be able to set up the tent alone, i am 1,60m high and 50kg weight. not big. my children are to small to help.

i fear the Albatros with the binnentent for 4 persons awaylable is to big und heavy... it has nerly my own weight...


are there other options than the vergrote kuifmees ore is that the best tent for my purpose?
(i only want a pyramid tent)

Most of the classic pyramids from the Waard are quitte easy to pitch for one person. I would rather go with a more classic model then the Kuifmees and have a zipper installed afterwards. I have a few tents were I’ve got velcro installed next to the buttons to keep the bugs out. Works great.

Be aware though that if you want to buy a new de Waard tent, they just went bankrupt this week. At the moment it is unknown what will happen.

A zipper is awful to use. I prefer the buttons. And no insects enter the tent! That is just a feeling.

But velcro is an option.

I do not agree.
Mine kuifeend has An zipper and i love it.
But it is realy important for the tent tot stand correct thigt (strak) if the tent stands loosely it is not easy to use.

i did not think of velcro! than i think i tend to a old classic tent and will install velcro.
(i worked a lot with it, stupid that i did not think oft it before...)or sew in a Zipper by myself.

with velcro i think it would be possible to install a seperate Moskito netz with Zippers sewn in also. very much new Options!

These round front bars of vergrote kuifmees did not really Appeal to me.

ok when you say, that i can pitch up an Albatros alone then this too would be an Option...


yesterday i read that vrijbruter is insolvent... it is so sad…. than this is probably the reason why the grote bonte specht lightweigt is not on the shop and in the shop are so few tents bzw. the awaylability of the tents is so low…


why did i not just buy a grote bonte specht and an albatros or stormvogel last year... now i do not dare to buy such an expensive tent by vrijbruter… fear my Money goes lost without tent…

i hope they produce these lovely tents in future too...

think i will wait what happens with dee waard und then look for esvo (but i find de waard tents better).


i find the quality of my grote bonte specht which i buyed ca. 4 years ago really good. no quality problems.

I really do not know weather you can pitch an Albatros by yourself. My wife can do it however I’m not sure she’s really a benchmark.
You can also try to find a nice used Albatros, Lepelaar or another model. Most of the new generation classics being sold now by the Waard are a disgrace for the brand in my opinion. Very ugly tents. However that’s just personal offcourse.
