Hello everybody,

yesterday we came back from our first camping vacation with our new Stormvogel at the North Sea (Germany). It is an absolutely wonderful tent and we just love it! Best camping experience ever :D

When we left the campground, we had to pack it in the morning while it was still quite wet from the morning dew. Back at home, we had to figure out how to get it dry. We live in a small appartement in Berlin (with no garden). We were lucky that our neighbours, who have a huge roof terrace, let us spread out the tent there. Today was a really hot day (+ 30 degrees) and it worked really well - the tent dried in just a few hours. :)

However, I am wondering now: how do you guys dry your tent? Or do you always bring down the tent when it is dry? Does that mean one has to be a bit more flexible when to leave or where to spend the last (possibly rainy) night? I am interested to hear from your experiences.

And are there people who also live in small appartements and have some ideas for getting it dry? Creative tent-drying under adverse circumstances so to speak?

I am looking forward to hearing from you!!

Kind regards,
Thea

We usually abuse our living room in our apartment. We had to dry tents a few times and the floor size is only roughly 4,5x3 meters. I try to use chairs (Ikea Hocker e.g.) inside the tent(or similar stuff), to raise the roof a bit from the groundsheet, to allow air flow, and use the vertical domain/space available in the room as much as possible. It can happen that the tent occupies the living room for two days, if really, really wet. C'est la vie. A dry tent is more important than anything lese

We have a polyester tent for the last night. And if its wet we hang it to dry in the staircase

We always break-up our tent the day before in dry conditions and use the last night a small dome shaped tent.... easy to break up in the morning and no hassle to dry back at home....

I live in an apartment and I have cats; I do not risk drying my tent in the living room. So I usually put it on my bed with a sheet of plastic underneath. It works for a Zilvermeeuw, I think a Stormvogel would fit as well.
It takes a couple of days and I sleep on the couch :)

When we go on holiday with a big tent (the Lepelaar) we tend to break up the night before leaving and sleep the last night in one or two smaller ones (visdief/koningsstern). You should try it, if only to see the puzzled gaze of the other people in the campsite, when you break up in the dusk. The small tents can be dried in my back yard (they just fit, one by one), although I've dried the koningsstern in my living room on a few occasions as well.

When we only had the Lepelaar (it was our first De Waard), I dried it in one occasion, on a very sunny day, in the common "street" between the garage boxes behind my house. It required a bit of policing the neighbours to not drive over my tent, but that worked out nicely (I have very nice neighbours). Just laid it out flat on the ground, and in a few hours time it was dry as a bone. No poles or whatever required.

Even with these possibilities, I hate to break up in the rain. Because we always (roughly) plan our camping holiday destination two days in advance (at most), we tend to end up in places where it's sunny and dry. This limits the chances of getting home with bags full of wet canvas tremendously. Last time I had to dry any of my tents at home is at least five years ago.

We never break up the day before. Extra work we don't like.
This year we were'n lucky. It began a little to dizzle just after the tent was down and not folded.

We dry our tent in the livingroom. All the furniture on one side. It just fits.
When the tent is very wet, we put 4 chairs in the tent. Then it takes only one day to dry it.
